SASSO DI CASTALDA: THRILLS SUSPENDED BETWEEN THE TIBETAN BRIDGES AND THE HEART OF THE VILLAGE
Duration: half a day
Meeting point: Kiosk in Piazza del Popolo - Sasso di Castalda
Tour language: Italian
Live a unique experience in the heart of Basilicata with the Sasso di Castalda Tibetan bridges route, one of the most spectacular itineraries in southern Italy, suspended between untouched nature, adrenaline, and breathtaking views.
The route unfolds along the picturesque banks of the Fosso Arenazzo, a deep natural gorge that opens at the foot of the characteristic village of Sasso di Castalda. Winding through the quaint streets of the historic center, amidst ancient stone houses and authentic glimpses, you reach the starting point of the first suspended bridge.
Ponte Petracca: the first step into the adventure
The journey begins with the Ponte Petracca, 95 meters long and suspended about 30 meters high. An exhilarating crossing that provides an initial rush of adrenaline and leads to a slope characterized by fascinating geological formations.
Towards Ponte alla Luna: nature and charm
Continuing along the path that skirts the Fosso Arenazzo, you encounter the votive chapel of the Madonna delle Grazie, nestled in a silent and evocative setting. In about 10 minutes, you reach the most spectacular point of the entire route.
Ponte alla Luna: walking suspended in the void
The majestic Ponte alla Luna is the true protagonist: a single span of 300 meters, suspended over 100 meters above the torrent below. Here you literally walk in the void, surrounded by an extraordinary panorama that amplifies every emotion.
Panorama and skywalk: beauty from above
Upon arrival, the path leads towards the ruins of the ancient castle, in a dominant position above the village. A panoramic terrace with a glass skywalk allows you to stop, breathe, and admire the journey just completed from above. Not far away, the viewpoint of the Medieval Rocca of Sasso di Castalda offers a 360° view of the Lucanian mountains, also thanks to a practical panoramic binocular.
Return through history and tradition
The return to the historic center is along a comfortable stone staircase, passing by the charming Church of San Nicola, recently restored, which adds a final touch of authenticity to this unforgettable experience.
